The Best PC Strategy Game

Company of Heroes is a WW2 strategy game for PC that is widely considered to be the best RTS game ever made and I couldn't agree more it is a great game.

Gameplay: It revolves around capturing of resource strategic points, there are three resource types: manpower, munitions and fuel. Different unit types require different resources. The more sectors you control the faster your resources build up to build new units.

Infantry can garrison buildings and shoot out the windows, evening converting them to a field barracks for further unit production.

Units earn experience as they fight which contributes to your overalls experience. As you gain experience you can choose one of 3 tech trees. Defensive, Mobile, or Armoured Company.

Tech unlocked in the tech tree you choose can be things like calling in an artillery bombardment, a recon plane, a special tank, a V2 rocket, paratrooper reinforcement, resource reinforcements, buffing your units.

Unit types: There are many different types of unit and tank, all which were real tanks in WW2. Engineers who built defenses such as tank traps, barbed wire, land mines, heavy machine gunners, artillery. Half-tracks, Snipers, Mortars, Infantry, Many types of tanks, special tanks like the rocket tank.

All units are upgradeable for the expense of resource, such as adding bazookas or BAR machine guns to infantry, grenades, adding a machine gunner to a tank.

Some units have an arc of fire that you will need to strategically set up, a heavy machine gun takes several seconds to set up but once placed in an ideal location it will pin down enemies and slow their advance.

Graphics: Amazing. Buildings are destructible, explosion effects very good. realistic audio is impressive. You can zoom right down to the soldiers level and see it from ground perspective.

The Campaign single player missions are very exciting and have in-game cut scenes starting from the D-Day invasion to victory. The expansion pack Opposing Fronts, opens up 2 new campaigns, the British, and for the first time the campaign from a German perspective. Missions are based like they would be in WW2, such as capturing towns, cutting of enemy roads, taking out AA guns so reinforcements can arrive. Completion of one objective will bring up a new in-game briefing map to tell you the next objective.

The original game consists of 2 factions, Americans on Germans. The expansion opens up 2 more playable factions, the British (a defensive army) and the Panzer Elite (a vehicle oriented army)

The best RTS game I have ever played and it is a few years old now so can be picked up at very cheap prices online and sent straight to your door. Great for both single player campaign and multiplayer. Awesome game for LAN parties.
