Best FPS (First Person Shooter) Games List

 I just wanted to start by saying my list is the best of first person shooter games of the present day. I will not be including games that many people consider to be in the top 10 because they are classics.  Games such as Goldeneye 007 as awesome as they were and are true gaming classics, I will not be including the classics of the past in my top fps games list.

To me Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the best first person shooter (fps) game of them all to date. It has amazing graphics, a good single player campaign with good storyline. Most importantly a thriving online community. The developers have not produced this game and forgotten about it, online patches are often released to fix any bugs.

New downloadable multiplayer maps have been released which extend the life out of multiplayer, which is where most fps games are aimed at.

Online you level up as you gain experience and unlock new weapons and perks. Perks allow you more customisation of your online gaming. Perks include things like faster running speed, invisible to thermal vision, increased accuracy, stronger bullet or explosive damage. etc. Customisation is a very appealing feature.

A great change from the over used WW2 theme in fps games that had dominated until the first Modern Warfare game was released.

Bioshock 2 is different from other fps games. It has a great storyline, it is set in the 1960's in an underwater city. The city was created as a paradise free from the constraints of the surface world. The citizens have become addicted to splicing their DNA to give them special abilities and as a result have become deformed and aggressive. They will do anything to get more 'ADAM' which they use to further splice.

The gameplay is interesting in that you not only have weapons but also powers. You have many abilities but to name a few you can electrify, set on fire, freeze, hypnotise enemies to fight for you, set traps, telekenesis and more.

Weapons are strange and really fun, all are upgradeable, all weapons also have varying ammo types.

Multiple endings based on the choice of your actions whether you decide to be good or bad.

Personally I don't really like Killzone 2 or 3.  But I know they are very popular so I'll put it in the list to satisfy the fans. They are good action games, but for me I was disappointed that the weapons have no secondary function like in many other sci-fi fps games. The range of enemies is very limited as well, you face 3 types of Helgast (space Nazi's) the entire game, normal Helghast, armoured Helghast and jet pack Helghast. Much of the time the enemies are standing conveniently next to red exploding barrels. But for some reason people think its awesome. So watch some videos of it and judge for yourself.

LEft 4 Dead is an online multiplayer FPS game with zombies as well. Really fun. enough said.

I've noticed this game is often modded by the modding community.

Bioshock Infinite

The next installment of the Bioshock series. This time set in a flying city. It's going to be awesome. Can't wait!
